Summary

ALLOWING FOR THE VARYING LEVELS OF RETINOPATHY IN PREMATURES, IN 149 INFANTS, THE AUTHOR ESTIMATES THAT ITS EARLY TREATMENT BY CRYOTHERAPY IS FAVOURABLE IN CAREFULLY SELECTED CASES. MOST INFANTS TREATED IN THIS WAY (WITH 6 TO 60 MONTH FOLLOW-UP) SHOWED A RELATIVELY NORMAL DEVELOPMENT OF OCULAR FUNCTION ; NO SERIOUS COMPLICATIONS DUE TO CRYOTHERAPY WERE OBSERVED. HOWEVER, THE STUDY OF THE APPLICATION OF THIS TREATMENT SHOULD BE FURTHERED IN SEVERAL PREMATURE CENTRES, WITH LONG-TERM SUPERVISION. G.G.
