Summary

EIGHT PATIENTS WITH ADVANCED PROSTATIC CARCINOMA WERE GIVEN INTRAVENOUSLY A SINGLE INJECTION OF LH-RH. BLOOD SAMPLES WERE TAKEN JUST BEFORE SURGERY AND FOUR WEEKS AFTER IT AND ANALYSED FOR HORMONES. THE FREEZING TIME WAS ABOUT 10 MINUTES WITH A LIQUID NITROGEN PROBE. THERE WAS NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PATIENTS FOLLOWING OPERATION BUT IN ONE DEPRESSION AND FACILITATION OF FSH AND LH SECRETION, RESPECTIVELY, WERE OBSERVCED AND THERE WAS A VARIATION IN THE RESPONSE OF GONADOTROPIN IN EACH PATIENT. CONCLUDED THAT CRYOSURGERY MAY INFLUENCE HORMONE SECRETION FROM THE PITUITARY GLAND. C.R.F.
