Summary

PRESENTS AN ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECT OF FINITE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY ON THE PERFORMANCE OF THERMAL STORAGE. THE GEOMETRIES OF THE STORAGE MEDIUM CONSIDERED ARE 1) SEMI-INFINITE SLAB (GROUND); 2) FINITE SLAB (WALL); 3) FINITE SLAB BACKED BY SEMI-INFINITE MEDIUM (FLOOR). SHOWS THAT THE USUAL ASSUMPTION OF AN ISOTHERMAL MASS, IE INFINITE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY, CAN LEAD TO APPRECIABLE ERRORS IN ASSESSING THE THERMAL PERFORMANCE OF THE STORAGE MEDIUM.
