Summary

THE BEHAVIOUR IS INVESTIGATED OF A SUPERCONDUCTING TUNNEL JUNC TION IRRADIATED BY ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES WITH A FREQUENCY EXCEEDING THE INVERSE ELECTRON < TUNNELLING TIME >. IT IS SHOWN THAT DUE TO EXPONENTIAL ENHANCEMENT OF THE EXTERNAL FIELD INSIDE THE BARRIER A STRONG CHANGE IN THE CRITICAL CURRENT OF THE JUNCTION SHOULD OCCUR. DEPENDING ON THE DIRECTIVITY OF THE ALTERNATING ELECTRIC FIELD, AN INCREASE AS WELL AS A NONMONOTONOUS DECREASE OF THE CRITICAL CURRENT SHOULD OCCUR WITH INCREASING IRRADIATION INTENSITY.
