Summary

The most important pollutants in ventilation and air-conditioning ducts, i.e. dust, microorganisms and other, e.g. oils, lubricants, sealing materials, are described. Close attention is paid to the sources of pollutants in air-treatment systems in hospital buildings. The general rules of prevention against deterioration of air supplied to hospital rooms, especially operating theatres, are discussed. These rules are compared with actual conditions in hospital buildings in Poland. The example of the Supervision Centre of the Koscierzyna Hospital is discussed in detail.
