Summary
Cut roses cv. Happiness were treated at the tight bud stage for 24 h at 4-6 °C with various combinations of 8-hydroxyquinoline citrate (HQC; 200 ppm), citric acid (300 ppm), aluminium sulphate (AS; 300 ppm), 3% sucrose and water (control) and then packed either in newspaper, kraft paper or cellophane sheet. The longest vase life (7.6 days), lowest percentage of petal wilting (4.7%) highest water uptake (68 ml) and the largest flower diameter (9 cm) resulted from pulsing treatment with sucrose + AS + HQC.
