Summary

Speed variation of the compressor is not usual for low-capacity refrigerating machines, but it is a flexible solution which is appropriate for large-capacity machines. Two experimental loops with open screw compressors are being tested at the Renardières, as part of an industrial partnership. A comparison of different control systems for the single-screw compressor demonstrates the superiority of speed variation over variation of the slide valve control position.
