Summary

The design feature of continuous-power variation with speed control by a frequency inverter was investigated in comparison with slide control in screw compressors for refrigeration. The results show the energy-saving potential in part load with ammonia as refrigerant. A new compressor optimized for higher speed and with an integrated slide for continuous Vi-control and unloaded start was developed. According to the torque characteristics, some tips for the design of the motor and the inverter are given.
