Effect of the supercooling phenomenon on the forced convective heat transfer of phase change slurry flows.

Summary

A model describing the laminar hydrodynamic and heat transfer characteristics of suspension flow with micro-size phase change material (PCM) in circular ducts is developed. A particularity is present in this kind of processes; it concerns the delay of the crystallization of the PCM, called supercooling phenomenon. The solidification process in the microcapsule was solved using the quasisteady formulation. The effects of different parameters on the heat transfer inside the exchanger, such as heat flux, wall temperature and concentration of microparticles are numerically predicted.
