Summary

THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF CORRUGATED INSULANTS MADE FROM POLYPROPYLENE OR POLYCARBONATE HAVE BEEN MEASURED BY EMPLOYING A STEADY STATE COMPARISON METHOD WITH SEVERAL SPECIMENS HAVING VARYING THICKNESSES AND SPECIFIC WEIGHTS. THE MAIN RESULTS OBTAINED WERE AS FOLLOWS: THE EFFECTIVE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY INCREASES WITH A RISING TEMPERATURE BUT THE RATE OF INCREASE IS SMALL ; THERE ARE CONSIDERABLE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE MEASURED AND PREDICTED VALUES ESTIMATED FROM THE THERMAL MODEL IN WHICH HEAT FLOWS BY CONDUCTION ONLY ; THE THERMAL RESISTANCE INCREASES LINEARLY WITH INCREASING SPECIMEN THICKNESS.
