Summary

A METHOD TO DETERMINE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PLATE-FIN AND TUBE HEAT EXCHANGERS AS A FUNCTION OF THE THERMAL CAPACITY RATIO, TRANSFER UNIT NUMBER AND FLOW DISPOSITION. THE ANALYTICAL MODEL FOR THE HEAT EXCHANGER ADOPTED MULTIPASS CROSSFLOW FOR A MIXED AND NON-MIXED FLUID. EFFECTIVENESS EQUATIONS WERE DERIVED AND THEY WERE CHECKED EXPERIMENTALLY. A REALISTIC DETERMINATION OF THE FIN EFFICIENCY IS PRESENTED AND IT TAKES INTO ACCOUNT HEAT TRANSFER DISTRIBUTION OF THE FIN SURFACE AREA. THE RESULTS OF FIN EFFICIENCY CALCULATIONS USING CONVENTIONAL METHODS WERE FOUND TO BE ALMOST SIMILAR TO THE RESULTS OBTAINED BY THE AUTHOR.
