Summary

TO PROVIDE BASIC DESIGN DATA, SEVEN FIN SURFACES, INCLUDING THREE FIN TYPES (STRIP-FIN, PERFORATED FIN AND PLANE STRAIGHT FIN), HAVE BEEN TESTED. THE EXPERIMENTAL CHARACTERISTIC CURVES ARE PRESENTED IN TERMS OF THE HEAT TRANSFER FACTOR AND FRICTION FACTOR VERSUS THE REYNOLDS NUMBER. THE PERFORMANCE EVALUATION AND COMPARISON OF THE EXPERIMENTAL FIN SURFACES WAS MADE BY THE PERFORMANCE RATING METHOD OF PLATE-FIN SURFACES REPORTED BY SOLAND ET AL. IN THIS PAPER THE METHODS FOR FURTHER IMPROVING THE PERFORMANCE OF FINNED SURFACES ARE ALSO DISCUSSED.
