Summary

Short critical current density samples and small coils wound from bronze-processed multifilamentary niobium-tin wires were reacted at 700 deg C, both under vacuum and under 20 Mpascals argon pressure for various times and subsequently tested in an applied transverse magnetic field at 4.2 K. High pressure reaction enhanced the niobium-tin layer growth and, in turn, increased the overall current-carrying-capacity of the short samples by 30-40%, and the quench current of the small magnet coils by 18-30% at all fields in the range 12-15 T.
