Summary

Preservative solutions containing calcium nitrate at 0.5 or 1 millimole decreased tip bending of flower stalks and increased vase life. The vase life of flowers held in 8-hydroxyquinoline sulfate + sucrose after pretreatment with silver thiosulphate + sucrose was increased by about 5 days; the quality of flowers after 1 or 2 weeks dry or wet storage was good following these treatments. As the storage duration increased, vase life, solution uptake and FW decreased slightly.
