Summary
Ejector refrigeration using zeotropic mixtures has the advantage of higher system efficiency. Rare studies focus on the effects of mixture composition on temperature matching characteristics in heat exchangers and system performance. Moreover, no study was found to use ejector overall-mode theoretical model to investigate ejector refrigeration system with zeotropic mixtures. Therefore, a numerical model employing the overall-mode ejector performance prediction model is developed, and eight zeotropic mixtures with low GWP and zero ODP are selected in this study. Effects of mixture composition on temperature matching characteristics in heat ex changers, system exergy efficiency and COP are studied. Results show that the mass fraction of mixtures significantly affects the temperature distribution in heat exchangers, which determines the pinch point position. Since the system exergy efficiency is predominantly governed by exergy destruction both in the heat exchangers and the ejector, optimizing the temperature matching indicator can significantly enhance system exergy effi ciency. In addition, R290/R600a demonstrates the most significant economic advantage among eight mixtures since its cooling capacity per unit mass flow rate and volume are the largest. Optimal mass fraction 0.744 was obtained for R290/R600a with the maximum system exergy efficiency to be 5.189%. The results obtained in this work are important for promoting the practical application and development of zeotropic mixtures in ejector refrigeration systems.
