Electrohydrodynamic technique of condensation enhancement.

Author(s) : BUTRYMOWICZ D.

Summary

The problem of electrohydrodynamic (EHD) condensation enhancement has been studied very recently. The method is suitable for dielectric media used in refrigeration and heat pump devices. The mechanism of the EHD condensation enhancement is discussed in the paper. A novel arrangement of tube-electrode system is proposed for integral-fin tubes. It consists of horizontal finned tube with an electrode placed beneath the tube. The experimental investigations have been performed for this tube-electrode system using HCFC-123 as a working medium. The experimental investigations covered also the application of a concentric electrode for the bare tube and finned tube. The obtained results confirmed the theoretical expectations since the application of the EHD method for the new tube-electrode system increased significantly the heat transfer coefficient up to 110%, depending on the tube-electrode geometry, electrode potential and condensate flow pattern.
