ENERGY CONSERVATION IN REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS: CENTRIFUGAL CHILLERS.

Author(s) : GUPTA V. P.

Type of article: Article

Summary

THE AUTHOR SUGGESTS SAVINGS IN ENERGY USE MAY BE MADE IN FOUR WAYS, BY INSTALLING AN IN-TUBE BRUSH CLEANING SYSTEM FOR CONDENSER TUBES, BY RAISING CHILLED AND LOWERING CONDENSER WATER TEMPERATURES, BY USING THERMAL CIRCULATION OF REFRIGERANT OR DIRECT USE OF COOLING TOWER WATER IN COOL WEATHER PERIODS, AND BY EQUIPPING COMPRESSORS WITH VARIABLE SPEED DRIVES. IT IS SUGGESTED THAT INPUT ENERGY MAY BE SAVED BY UP TO 35, 17, 40, AND 30% RESPECTIVELY, WHEN APPLIED TO PLANTS OF 1 MW REFRIGERATION CAPACITY OR GREATER. D.W.H.
