Summary
Standardized air-conditioning units are increasingly used in industrial refrigeration applications. They seem to have better part load behaviour for energy consumption than 'tailor-made' industrial units. The data for air-conditioning units are based on the American ARI 550 standard, where COPs are calculated on the basis of lower cooling water temperatures of 1.4 °C per 10% capacity reduction. The part load conditions of 'tailor-made' industrial units are based on constant cooling water temperatures. The results of both calculation methods are offered to end users without further explanation, causing misleading conclusions.
