Energy efficiency standards and real energy efficiency status for air-conditioning units in China.

Author(s) : LU W., SHI L., MA Y. T.

Summary

In order to reduce energy consumption and associated pollutant emissions, China recently issued three national energy efficiency standards, GB19577-2004, GB19576-2004 and GB12021.3-2004, for vapour compression air-conditioning units. At the same time, a mandatory energy efficiency label for room air conditioners was launched. The paper first reviews the three standards and energy efficiency labelling programs for air-conditioning units in China. Then, the paper evaluates the energy efficiency levels of central air-conditioning units in China. The results reveal most units meet the minimum allowable values of energy efficiency of Chinese standards, but few tally with the requirements of US standards and the evaluating values of energy conservation of Chinese standards.
