Summary
This paper describes a pump power saving technique by decreasing the pipe friction factor in water flow by adding cationic surfactant, which can suppress turbulence and maintain laminar flow. Reduction in pump power were tested in a heat transportation system for spot-type air conditioning equipment. As a result, it was obtained that pump power for surfactant solution flow can be reduced to about 75% of the power needed to pump using water only.
