Energy saving possibilities for cooled-ceiling air-conditioning systems.

Summary

The paper demonstrates the possibilities using dynamic building simulation for HVAC system energy analysis. The method is applied to all-air-systems (CAV and VAV) and cooled ceiling (CC) system and showed the following results: 1) the radiant effect of horizontal ceiling panels will limit the heat storage capacity of the building envelope; 2) the overall effect is that the CC system has a compatible energy performance with the VAV system. By heat recovery for both systems about 25% of the energy cost can be saved; 3) evaporative cooling in combination with cooling systems show a promising potential in the Dutch climate.
