Low energy cooling strategies.

Summary

A number of air-conditioning systems with low energy-consumption are examined. Techniques of dynamic analysis make it possible to assess the advantages of these systems for air conditioning in British buildings. In order to use these techniques a re-evaluation of the comfort standards is necessary and the analysis shows how frequently comfort temperatures are exceeded. Results show that at low level internal heat output, some passive or hybrid systems can provide a satisfactory level of comfort. For more significant internal heat output, these systems allow the power and energy consumption of conventional systems to be reduced.
