Application of large-scale optimization in the design of heat pump systems.

Author(s) : SCHIEFLOE P. A.

Summary

A method for design and operational optimization of a HVAC system has been developed. The system includes a heat pump with each major component modeled after performance data from the manufacturer. The method makes use of the large scale optimization package MINOS. By using optimization methods like the one described, it is possible to perform analysis, design and optimization of systems with a variable load operational characteristic which is typical for HVAC plants.
