Summary

In the frame of the many policies - everywhere in the world - aiming to reduce the energy consumption of the domestic appliances, standards are often the pillar sustaining the implementation of the relevant regulations. A package of three IEC international standards regarding the cold domestic appliances has been published in 2015. The previous specifications (2007) have been deeply revised. Today, the determination of the energy consumption related to these appliances is grounded on the using of an algorithm and on the combination of elements of the global energy consumption itself. The reliability of the tests results is improved. New characteristics related to the performance of the appliances are taken into account. This article presents the international standard dated 2015, highlights its differences with the cancelled and replaced version and, finally, the achieved and expected goals. The consequences at the European Union level are touched.
