ENERGY SAVINGS IN THE DESIGN AND OPERATION OF COLD STORES CAN BE ENVISAGED IN AS MUCH AS THEY ALSO RESULT IN A DECREASE IN COST PRICE. 1) IN PLANT IN OPERATION: -BY IMPROVING THE MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION OF MACHINES AND BY A BETTER MANAGEMENT OF THAWING PROCESSES ; -BY MAINTAINING INSULATION IN GOOD CONDITION AND BY LIMITING CASUAL AIR CHANGES. 2) IN PLANT TO BE BUILT: -BY CALCULATING THE OPTIMUM INSULATING THICKNESS AND THE REFRIGERATING CAPACITY TO BE INSTALLED, ALLOWING FOR THE DUTY ; -BY ALLOWING FOR VENTILATION RATE TO A REASONABLE EXTENT ; -BY ADOPTING A GENERAL COMPACT SHAPE, COMPATIBLE WITH REQUIRED OPERATION (CASE OF FREEZING EQUIPMENT). 3) FOR MARKETING AND DISTRIBUTION: -BY ADOPTING PACKAGES WELL ADJUSTED TO PRODUCTS ; -BY TRAINING STAFF AND INFORMING CONSUMERS ; -BY A BETTER ORGANISATION OF DELIVERY ROUNDS ; -BY ARRANGEMENT OF REFRIGERATED CABINETS (E.
