Summary

The article aims to inform on the history, the present-day requirements, and the future developments affecting hospital operating theatres on the African continent. Practical experiences of an innovative method of air flow through a theatre suite are given. Special (African context) requirements for theatre air-conditioning are given, as well as for the peripheral services for the air-conditioning of, and the functioning of, the theatre. New trends are listed and their impact is explained.
