Summary

The following treatments were used: 1) room with external air forced ventilation (EFV); 2) room with no forced ventilation (NFV); 3) room with wide opening windows and curtains system (ROC); 4) room with evaporative cooling (RAE). One hundred and four sows were allotted at random to four lots of 26 animals. Comfort parameters were estimated. The treatment ROC was the one which had the lowest values of global temperature and humidity index, radiant thermal load, bioclimate index, and relative humidity, among other treatments. Wide opening windows and a system of curtains provided the best conditions for lactating sows in pig nurseries.
