Summary

The primary aim of this study is to obtain fundamental knowledge about an improvement in the efficiency of the room-temperature magnetic refrigerator. The authors developed a test system of a room-temperature magnetic refrigerator, applied the AMR cycle, and conducted the experimental study on the fundamental heat transfer characteristics between the magnetic material and the heat transfer fluid and on the cooling characteristics of the system. The basic components of the target system are a magnetic circuit, a test section, a fluid blowing system, and associated instrumentation. A magnetic circuit is installed on a PC-controlled slider stage to change the magnetic field from 0 to 2.0 Tesla with reciprocating motion. The experimental data indicates that the AMR is effective for the operation of the room-temperature magnetic refrigerator.
