Estimation of the stagnant thermal conductivity of saturated porous media.
Author(s) : NIELD D. A.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The author has evolved a simple formula for estimating the thermal conductivity of a liquid saturated porous bed. The solution uses a geometric mean of the overall heat conduction in parallel and that in series. The results compare favourably for estimation purposes with the more complex equation developed by Kunii and Smith, and also with measured results. Only the case where the ratio of conductivity fluid/solid is large is the author's estimation considerably overpredicted. D.W.H.
