Summary

Ice sublimation in porous media is a factor in many engineering problems. The paper presents a thermal experimental simulation of sublimation phenomena when a cold-air stream flows around vertical, cylindrical samples. It is underlined that heat transfer is not uniform around the cylinder. Correlations between the local Nusselt number and the Reynolds number for three angles around the cylinder and for two flow states are also presented. Smooth and rough surfaces are also considered. After a correlation of the Chilton-Colburn factors and the Reynolds number, the thickness of the local thermal boundary layer and of the effective boundary layer are evaluated.
