Evaluation of a new simulation program for absorption refrigeration and heat pumps.

Summary

Absorption refrigeration and heat pumps have gained a renewed research interest due to their abilities to utilize renewable thermal energy resources and contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases emission. These systems are relatively complex and need specific software tools for modeling and simulation of their performances under different scenarios. SorpSim is an open-source software program developed to simulate the steady-state performance of sorption systems based on a flexible and modular approach. The software was developed in 2014 by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (Tennessee, USA) based on the computing engine of ABSIM Version 5.0. The advantage of SorpSim is its user-friendly graphic interface, which helps the user to build sorption system models without the necessity of coding knowledge. Moreover, its capacity can be expanded by incorporating new user-defined component modules and properties of new working fluids.
