Summary

There are several ways of producing water-ice suspension (slurry): using ice makers; using finely dispersed atomization into the airflow at -25°C; atomization of superchilled water into storage tank; use of vacuum technology. The latter method consists in injection of water chilled to near zero temperature into a vacuum chamber through a node. A specific consumption of refrigeration for the production of 1 kg of ice using vacuum technology and finely dispersed atomization into the cold air flow has been calculated. Trough energy consumption proved to be approximately equal, the vacuum method has a number of advantages: simplicity of installation and maintenance of the plant, ecological safety. The operation of RUTs type pump-compressors and a centrifugal exhauster when they are used for pumping out water vapour from vacuum chamber is compared.
