Evaluation of French fleet of refrigerated equipment.
Number: pap. 197
Author(s) : MICHINEAU T., CAVALIER G., DEVIN E.
Summary
Refrigerated transport can be considered as a mature market in Europe. It is estimated that the total freight transported under controlled temperature is about 400 millions of tons of perishables foodstuff per year. In France, ATP is mandatory for all equipment used to transport perishable foodstuff except for short journey of less than 80 km. To manage Certificate’s delivery, France has a developed a centralized computing system Datafrig ®. More than 300 000 refrigerated vehicles are registered in this database, with detailed and reliable information since 2005. For each vehicle, many information about insulated body, gross vehicles weight, type of vehicles, refrigeration units and refrigerant charge are provided. After an analysis and segmentation of the refrigerated vehicles market, authors will provide detailed information based on key criteria such as refrigeration capacity, insulation K coefficient, noise emission or energy consumption based on the study of equipment produced in 2013 for the French market. Authors will present the evolution of those criteria over the past 5 years and will tend to predict their evolution in the near future, taking into account the impact of new distribution modes and initiatives proposed to avoid road congestion. Authors will also define several factors based on key criteria to assess and then monitor environmental impact of refrigerated transport.
