Evaluation of refrigerant oil and sliding materials for alternative refrigerant.

Summary

The most difficult problem of the reliability of compressors is the selection and evaluation of refrigerant oils and sliding materials for application of HFC refrigerants. The primary selection of refrigerant oils would be carried out based on their viscosity (under high pressure, mixed lubrication). Pressure viscosity coefficient was measured by utilizing the optical interference method. The measured values of polyol ester and PVE (polyvinyl) were correlated with oil film sustaining ability evaluated by an electric resistivity method. These measurements showed good results for PVE. As for the sliding materials, the evaluation of several materials for journal bearings and oldham rings were conducted with using the bearing testing machine and frictional were testing equipment in the refrigerant environment.
