Summary
A procedure is described for computing the seasonal energy requirements of air-conditioning plants during summer. This procedure is based on the concept of a monthly reference day, which can be substituted for each day of a month, so giving an equivalent month, able to represent the actual energy consumption occurring in the reference year. The reference day is plainly obtained by the hourly average values of a certain month of the reference year. Energy consumption is calculated on an hour-by-hour basis using the method of the transfer functions introduced by ASHRAE. A validation of the proposed method was carried out by comparing the results obtained for the reference year by a sophisticated simulation model (NBLSD); this comparison concerns representative buildings located in three Italian towns; the maximum deviation is not greater than 7.5%.
