Summary

Experimental analysis of thermal energy storage container was conducted in this work using phase change material. An experimental setup was built to experimentally investigate the thermal storage container built. Measurement of temperature at nine points of various locations in the thermal storage container along with two thermocouples points at the inlet and outlet. Furthermore, the flow rate was measured and various experimental results were obtained at different conditions of flow rate and initial temperature of heat transfer fluid. Experiment demonstrates clearly the phase change material effect in melting and solidification. Furthermore experiment demonstrates the constant temperature heat storage in the range between 170°C to
200°C could be obtained using the container installed. The overall heat transfer coefficient was measured and its relation between flow rate and log-mean temperature was plotted. In general results showed that the utilization of phase change material in thermal storage is feasible to store and extract heat at constant temperature in the range between 170°C to 200°C which has many applications in engineering and industry.
