Summary

A test plant was constructed for measurements of local heat-transfer coefficients and frictional pressure drops on the shell-side of spiral-wound LNG heat exchangers. Measurements were performed with single-phase vapour flow, liquid film flow and two-phase shear flow. The article focuses on the measurements and the results from the liquid falling film flow experiments. One hundred and seventy-one liquid falling film heat-transfer measurements were performed at a film Re-number range of 500-8000 with ethane, propane, methane/ethane mixture, ethane/propane mixtures and ethane/n-butane mixture as test fluids.
