Summary
AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION WAS CARRIEDOUT UTILIZING AN UNDEREXPANDED SUPERSONIC JET FACING A WATER-COOLED PRIMARY RESONANCE TUBE OF THE HARTMANN-SPRENGER TYPE AND A PRIMARY-SECONDARY RESONANCE-TUBE COMBINATION. THE COOLING EFFECT AT THE PRIMARY RESONANCE TUBE LOWERS THE EXIT-GAS TEMPERATURE WHICH WOULD OTHERWISE REMAIN CONSTANT. THE EXPERIMENTS WITH PRIMARY AND SECONDARY RESONANCE TUBES IN TANDEM DEMONSTRATED AN EVEN STRONGER HEATING EFFECT OF THE GAS IN THE SECONDARY RESONANCE SECTION. IT SHOULD BE POSSIBLETO INCREASE THE HEAT-REMOVAL CAPABILITIES AT THE OUTER SURFACES OF PRIMARY AND SECONDARY RESONANCE TUBES AND MAXIMIZE THE COOLING RATE OF THE EXIT GAS.
