Experimental investigations on dynamic stability of HTS bulk levitating system.

Author(s) : WEN Z., LIU Y., QIU M., et al.

Summary

Melt-textured HTS bulk superconductors with a high critical current density are commercially available, which have enormous potential for various applications such as magnetic bearing and non-contact transport. Focusing on the applicability of YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO) bulk levitating system, an investigation on dynamic properties of such a system was performed, such as the resonant frequency, suspension stiffness and so on. From the experiments, it was observed that the quality fluctuation of the suspension body exerts little impact on the system's resonant frequency. Also, the dynamic stiffness of the magnetic suspension system decreases obviously with the increase of the vibration amplitude. The paper would attempt to provide an evaluative scheme for the stability of the levitation system by the qualitative analysis of the HTS dynamic characteristics.
