Experimental measurements for a new heat pump desiccant dehumidifier during a summer session.

Author(s) : LAZZARIN R., BUSATO F., CASTELLOTTI F., et al.

Summary

It is well known that the energy consumption for summer air conditioning tends to be an ever-growing fraction of the energy need for the indoor environment. Recently, new equipment for dehumidification was put onto the market. It is a self-regenerating liquid desiccant cooling system able to dehumidify, heat or cool the ambient air with an electric heat pump that is a part of the equipment. A commercial/industrial treatment unit of this type was installed in a new building at the Vicenza Hospital, and a data logging system was set up to monitor several parameters of this interesting device. Collected data show the performances of the device, both in terms of COP and temperature-humidity control. These data were of great help in order to gain understanding of the unit's behaviour.
