Summary

THE AA. HAVE MEASURED, DURING THE OPERATION OF A TYPICAL SCREW COMPRESSOR FOR AMMONIA, THE PHYSICAL PARAMETERS REQUIRED TO CALCULATE THE COMPRESSION EFFICIENCY. THE MOST SIGNIFICANT QUANTITIES ARE SHOWN ON DIAGRAMS AS FUNCTIONS OF THE PRESSURE RATIO FOR DIFFERENT VALUES OF THE DISCHARGE PRESSURE: FOR A PRESSURE RATIO RANGING FROM 3 TO 7 AND A DISCHARGE PRESSURE RANGING FROM 9 TO 11 BAR (900 TO 1,100 KPA), THE RATIO BETWEEN THERMAL POWER AND MECHANICAL POWER EXCHANGED IN THE COMPRESSION WAS FOUND TO VARY FROM 0.6 TO 0.8 AND THE COMPRESSION EFFICIENCY FROM 0.45 TO 0.65. THIS LAST QUANTITY HAS BEEN DEFINED WITH REFERENCE TO IDEAL COMPRESSION REFRIGERATION. E. F.
