Experimental set-up for AC susceptibility measurements of superconductors using 14 T superconducting magnet with variable temperature insert.

Summary

The measurement of AC (alternating current) susceptibility is very important for characterizing superconductors. This contribution describes the experimental set-up designed for AC susceptibility measurement using a superconducting magnet working at magnetic field up to 14 T with variable temperature insert working in the temperature range 1.5-300 K. The sample holder includes: AC coil, measurement coil, compensation coils and adjustable insert. The adjustable insert contains the Cernox thermometer for the temperature measurement and the Hall probe for the magnetic field measurement. The system enables to study properties of superconducting samples, e.g. wires and tapes of different thickness. This is accomplished by means of the measurement of the temperature and amplitude dependence of the complex AC susceptibility at DC component of applied magnetic field up to 14 T.
