Summary

THE AUTHORS PERFORMED CRYOSURGERY ON LIVER CANCER IN RATS IN ORDER TO STUDY HOST IMMUNOLOGICAL RESPONSE AFTER CRYOSURGE THEY USED THE SPRAQUE-DAWLEY RAT, IN WHICH THEYTRANSPLANTED MRMT-1 CANCEROUS TUMOURS IN THE LIVER. CARBON DIOXIDE WAS USED FOR FREEZING. AN ACCELERATION OF IMMUNOLOGICAL RESPONSE WAS SHOWN WHEN < MILD > CRYOSURGERY WAS PERFORMED, CAUSING < LOW > DESTRUCTION OF THE CANCER CELLS. THIS ACCELERATION WAS EVIDENT 2 TO 8 WEEKS AFTER CRYOSURGERY. A DECREASE OF IMMUNITY WAS SHOWN WHEN < STRONG > CRYOSURGERY WAS PERFORMED, CAUSING HIGH DESTRUCTION OF THE CANCER CELLS.
