Summary

This study introduces a zoned local radiant cooling system that employs modular wall‑mounted panels to create a micro‑thermal environment in spaces with uneven load distribution where zoned air conditioning is required. The operational performance of the system, including thermal response, indoor thermal comfort, and energy efficiency, was evaluated through comprehensive laboratory experiments with supply water temperatures ranging from 12 to 19 ◦ C. The results show that the external environment had a more pronounced influence on the thermal response of the room than the system parameters. The zoned configuration of the radiant terminals effectively maintained a comfortable indoor thermal environment without inducing thermal discomfort. The areal cooling capacity of the local radiant cooling terminal reached 117 - 125 W/m². To evaluate the operational efficiency of the radiant terminal, the energy efficiency benefit ratio (EEBR) was proposed, which peaked at 0.92. Based on these metrics, an optimal supply water temperature below 16 ◦ C was identified to achieve high operational efficiency and economic performance. These findings provide essential technical support for implementing local radiant cooling systems to achieve zoned thermal environment control in office buildings.
