Experiments on a charcoal-nitrogen sorption compressor and model considerations.

Summary

Sorption compressors are based on cyclic sorption and desorption of a working gas in a sorption material, and can be used to supply a gas flow or a pressure wave to a cryocooler. An advantage of sorption compressors is the absence of moving parts, except for some check valves. The authors constructed a test set-up for characterizing sorber materials and gases to be applied in a sorption compressor. Also the set-up is used to develop a thermodynamical model for a sorption compressor.
