TEST RESULTS OF A 5 HP DOMESTIC EXTERNAL AIR/WATER HEAT PUMP HAVE SHOWN THE FOLLOWING. THE MECHANICAL FROST REMOVAL WITH A NON RECOVERABLE FLUID (SILICON OIL OF THE TYPE RHODORSIL 47 V20) APPEARS TO BE DIFFICULT AND UNCERTAIN. FROST ABSORPTION BY A HYDROPHILE SOLUTION OF LITHIUM CHLORIDE APPEARS TO BE MORE PROMISING. THE NEED OF CONTINUOUS REGENERATION OF THE SOLUTION (BY A BOILER WITH MECHANICAL VAPOUR RECOMPRESSION) REQUIRES ADDITIONAL INVESTMENT AND OPERATING COSTS JUSTIFIED ONLY FOR BIG INSTALLATIONS.
