F-Gas training and assessment in the UK and qualifications for low GWP refrigerants.

Number: pap. n. E308

Summary

The publication of the revised F Gas Regulations indicate that in July 2011 (when all personnel were required to be assessed to the new qualifications) the number of personnel subject to certification requirements was 19,500 and of this number 15,584 have become fully certified, which equates to 79.9%. Certain sectors of the Industry have achieved even less success in adopting the scheme, particularly in the Domestic and Small Commercial Refrigeration sector, and this is partly due to the fact that a large number of these systems utilise non Fluorinated Refrigerants. The Department of the Environment (UK Authorised Persons) has subsequently changed their approach to the policing of the F-Gas Regulations. Previously their methods have been more about informing organisations of their responsibilities rather than enforcement. Now, the Department for the Environment has many legal cases pending.
