Methodological approaches for the compilation of the German F-gas inventory.

Number: pap. n. 18

Author(s) : GSCHREY B., SCHWARZ W.

Summary

The compilation of inventories of fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) varies largely between countries regarding the data sources and calculation methods applied. The German inventory of fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) has been established, refined and continuously updated for many years in order to provide detailed and country-specific data for the annual reporting of F-gas emissions to the UNFCCC. The methodologies for the compilation of activity data and the subsequent calculation of annual F-gas emissions, vary between emission sources. As examples for other inventories, two main approaches for the category of stationary refrigeration and air conditioning (2.F.1) are described: One approach is based on the number of equipment units containing F-gases installed in Germany each year. This approach is applied to several emission source sub-categories, e.g. single split air conditioners. Another approach makes use of statistical data on the sales area in supermarkets and is applied to centralized refrigeration systems in the commercial refrigeration category.
