Summary

A LIQUID NITROGEN STORAGE CONTAINER OF 200 LITRES CAPACITY AND AN ULLAGE SPACE OF 15% HAS BEEN FABRICATED WITH INDIGENOUS MATERIALS FOR LABORATORY USE. EVACUATED PERLITE OF DENSITY 50 KG/M3 HAS BEEN USED AS INSULATION. PRELIMINARY TRIALS SHOW THAT THE VESSEL WITH PERLITE AT 13 PASCAL HAS AN EVAPORATION RATE OF LIQUID NITROGEN 6.5% PER DAY. IT IS HOPED THAT THE EVAPORATION RATE WILL COME DOWN CONSIDERABLY WITH THE IMPROVEMENT OF VACUUM IN THE INSULATION SPACE. THE CONTAINER IS PROVIDED WITH A FILLING TUBE, LEVEL INDICATOR AND A TRANSFER TUBE.
