Summary

THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A TRANSFER LINE FOR LIQUID NITROGEN FROM TWO NITROGEN LIQUEFIERS TO A STORAGE TANK VIA A LIQUID NITROGEN PUMP IS DESCRIBED. THE LINE CONSISTS OF TWO COAXIAL COPPER PIPES WITH INTERSPACE FILLED WITH EXPANDED PERLITE AND EVACUATED. DETAILS OF THE DESIGN OF SPACERS ALONG THE LENGTH OF THE LINE ARE GIVEN. METHODS OF OVERCOMING THERMAL CONTRACTION EFFECTS ARE DESCRIBED. THE MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE FOR THE POWDER INSULATION EFFICIENCY IS EXPLAINED AND RESULTS FOR THE TRANSFER LINE ARE DISCUSSED.
